Director’s General Introduction

City University welcomes mature students. Your life experience adds real value to your studies and enriches the learning environment for everyone. Many mature students join us without traditional school qualifications, and we support you every step of the way.

You can choose from a wide range of degree programmes, many with work placements to prepare you for life after graduation. Your previous work or volunteer experience may count towards your course through our Accreditation of Prior Learning scheme, helping you save time and money.

Almost 70% of our students are mature students. We provide a supportive and flexible learning environment tailored to your needs. Take this opportunity to gain a degree, build confidence, develop new skills, and make lifelong connections. Join City University and move forward with your goals.

We love to welcome mature students to City University

We love working with mature students and aim to make your path to university smooth and clear. We know starting university can feel overwhelming, so we’re here to help you make the best choices for your future. If you want this, you can achieve it.

We’re proud of our diverse student community — many are mature learners whose personal and professional experiences add real value to life at City University.

You don’t always need formal qualifications to study with us. If you’re 21 or older when you start your first undergraduate degree, you’re a mature student. Relevant work or life experience, commitment, and enthusiasm matter just as much. Visit one of our open days and see for yourself.

We know many mature students have other commitments. Our student–parent liaison adviser, XYZ, can guide you on financial support and practical matters if you’re balancing study and family life.

We offer excellent support every step of the way. Explore what’s available below.

Shadowing a City University student

Did you know you can shadow a City University student? If you’re aged 21 or older, you can spend an hour or two or even a whole day with a current student and see if university is for you. Please note: due to COVID-19 we have temporarily stopped our Shadowing scheme, but hope to revive it when safe to do so. Stay safe.
